I. HAVE BEEN SLOGGING. THROUGH HOURS. OF SEAT-GRIPPING DRAMA. AND SECRETS. AND LIES. AND TEASERS. FOR THIS GORGEOUS SHOT.

My favorite Doctor is rapidly becoming whichever Doctor I’m currently watching.

I really just can’t handle the Third Doctor in Inferno right now. His quiet indignation is killing me. Everyone in positions of authority in the past two episode-arcs has been against him and trying to get him kicked out of wherever he’s been trying to help, and he’s just like “Fuck all of you, I’m so right and you’re not going to get rid of me.” He’s like a cockroach, tenacious as hell, damn determined to keep going, and he’s just so awesome. His dynamic with the militaristic Brigadier, and his constant gentlemanly catfights with the heads of the projects UNIT is investigating are just perfect to show the different sides, suggestions, and levels of solving a problem. His friendship and partnership with Liz Shaw is just lovely, she’s the most useful, knowledgeable, and helpful companion I’ve seen so far, and she’s not just a companion, she’s actually an assistant, a proper assistant that the Doctor can ask to go check the multi-circuits on his console and she’ll go, check them, and know to replace two when they’ve burnt out before he’s come back to ask. I wish more of them were useful like that.

Now he’s in this alternate world and is accused of being a spy and there is just some great, sharp dialogue between him and the now-Brigade Leader Lethbridge-Stewart and instead of backing down when surrounded by guns and hostile military members he’s still that indignant old man who refuses to surrender his dignity or abandon his goals because he knows he’s right in ANY REALITY he accidentally visits. He still gives Lethbridge-Stwart a run for his money and refuses to play the prisoner that he is.

He’s just so great and I’m fangirling shamelessly over here. I can’t even describe half of it. And I won’t even get into how resourceful he is. I’ll just let you know, I understand now very well why the director of the Seventh Doctor’s era banned the Sonic Screwdriver. Having to use Earth equipment, having to order and wait for more expensive, specialized electronic equipment from UNIT headquarters while everything is going down the tubes where he is just makes this character so incredibly real. He’s trapped on earth and making the best of it and I just love him to muscular, dandy little pieces.

Stumbled upon my new master stroke: Since no one in the Pond family goes by the same last name, they should henceforth be referred to as “The House of BAMF.”
