I think they got it from one of those vintage stores. I wasn’t tempted to keep it, I wouldn’t really have an opportunity to wear anything like that. I don’t go to that many awards shows and if I do designers will usually say, ‘Oh, wear this for the night, will you?’
I definitely didn’t want to keep the combats. Not after we finished with them. We got so muddy. You were walking sometimes with an extra 30 pounds of weight, squelching through clay, mud clinging to our boots. I was longing to get out of the combat gear by the end of filming that story, let’s just put it that way.
I actually wanted to have a pair of pussycat ears and a pussycat tail but they wouldn’t let me have it. The producers were like, ‘It’s got to be serious.’ I thought, ‘Well, she is serious but she likes a bit of fun as well — she’s a cat burglar!’ But they wouldn’t let me. I could have had something sonic at the end of my tail!
- Alex Kingston, The Brilliant Book of Doctor Who
River Song definitely would have worn at least cat ears, if not the tail. Definitely.
Oh lord, I look like Fenella Fielding! I just think I look like mutton dressed as lamb. It was fun to do and that’s part of River’s campery. It’s like, ‘What can we put her in next?’ I’m longing to see what I’m going to be wearing in the next episode, that’s for sure. I don’t know where the costume came from — probably left over from I, Claudius.
With a sheep thrown over the top sometimes! Additional sheep! That was fabulous for being warm. The weather that particular night we were filming at Stonehenge was freezing cold. We had rain, we even had snow at some point in the early hours of the morning. So I was actually quite thrilled to have all those layers keeping me from icing up.
So playful. So classy. Alex Kingston, I am shamelessly in lesbians with you.
What I loved most about River’s jumping of the building is that they had arranged with Canton to be caught, yet she went and threw herself of a skyscraper anyway, knowing the Doctor would catch her. Because she is a BAMF and the Queen of all Hispters.
>.> um, well, I don’t know about waving-a-big-banner-in-the-middle-of-a-field proud, but I’ll definitely give my little quiet hurrah from the corner at a rally…
